Gabonano - Thornton's Account

Wizards Only's Gabonano just leaked a buttery new track that that'll have you swingin from wall to wall! "Thornton's Account" almost sounds a bit Madlib-esque, but still perfectly encapsulates Gabo's production style. The beat is said to be for his upcoming tape, & while we have no projected released date yet, we can only hope it's coming sooner than later with bangers like these! Enjoy & stay tuned!

Dre Trav - Dualism

So Cal native Dre Trav of the WatsToday crew just dropped his album "Dualism" & it definitely deserves a listen from any lover of hip-hop. A handful of jazzy, bassy, & familiar sounding chops & loops bring this tape together & make it suitable for both easy listening & head nodding. Check it out below!

MC² - Garage Magic

Today we're happy to introduce you to the PWC hip-hop duo MC², consisting of emcees Loki & Johnny Complex. The two have been in out of various groups over the years & have finally decided to harness their sound down to just the two of them, which turned out to be a great idea. Garage Magic is their first official release & I can't say I'm not impressed with the turnout. The up & comers channel their conscious & introspective lyrics out onto some jazzy productions provided by PWC producer Danny Da Beat'O, as well as some choice productions by their own Loki, setting the scene for a late night walk to gather your thoughts. Overall, the 9-track project is seamlessly smooth & I can't help but get a bit of a People Under The Stairs vibe from the San Diego natives. Click the link below & take a voyage into Garage Magic. If you're feeling the vibe & want more then you're in luck! They will be featured on our up & coming compilation Seasons, dropping later this week! For now, press play & enjoy!

Real J. Wallace X Abjo - The Holyfield

The Holyfield
By now you've probably heard of these two 8th&G cohorts, so we'll keep the introduction short. Brother Nature's Real J. Wallace & Soulection's Abjo have linked up for a new project entitled The Holyfield. The 9-track affair showcases production by Abjo & lyrics by Real J. & from the moment you press play you'll realize that these 2 San Diego natives are no strangers to working with eachother. Wallace's well-placed conscious lyrics flow perfectly into Abjo's soulful & melodic rhythms, invoking reflective & inspirational thoughts throughout the tape. Real J. recently held a release party for the tape via Break Bread TV which showcased several local acts & had limited physical copies & t-shirts available for purchase. Check out The Holyfield below & be sure to stay on the look out for more from the both of these two!

FIRST PWC COMPILATION "SEASONS" COMING SOON!

Like we said yesterday, we've been on a bit of a hiatus lately, but with good reason. There's plenty of progressive runnings in the works & with the DIY nature of our little collective, sometimes that means putting certain things aside to attend to the matters at hand. As we've rolled into the fall & are now nearing winter, the changing of equinoxes has shown us all a fair shair of vibrational fluxuation, bearing both change & promise. That's why we decided to name our first compilation Seasons. Projected to drop within the next coming weeks, Seasons will be the first collected effort by us here at PWC & will feature a plethora of tracks from some of our favorite artists featured here on the blog. We enlisted PWC producers L-TEC & Danny Da Beat'O to cook up the booms & baps to be flown over by some of our camp's finest, including Apex RealmRicky Gutz, MCsquared & more! Keep your eyes & ears open for what's to come as we begin to round out the end of 2013!

Gabonano - Sweet Shells

We'd like to apologize for our little hiatus as of late, but with a limited staff & countless amounts of work to be done, we find ourselves falling off track from time to time. With that being said, we're glad to say that we're back with tons of news & fresh material to share with you. Today, we bring you a clean new track dropped by Wizards Only member Gabonano, accompanied by visuals provided by fellow San Diego producer Justin Truelove. Overall, the video is a laid-back trip into a day in the life of Gabo in his native city of Chula Vista , which would include a trip to the local panaderia for some sweet shells, a sighting of the ever-so-tasty Don Pedro's Taco Shop (!!) & lounging in the wizardly lair they have dubbed Garage 64. Check out the video below & be sure to tune in to everything the Wizard crew has in store!

PWC RELEASE: Ricky Gutz - In The Conundrum Vol. 2

Those of you who have been following us over the past few months are probably familiar with the name Ricky Gutz by now. The up & coming emcee already has several features with Apex Realm members Skelly & L-TEC, as well as a mixtape of his own (In The Conundrum Vol. 1) under his belt. In The Conundrum Vol. 2 is PWC artist Ricky Gutz's follow up project proceeding I.T.C. Vol. 1 (released May 2012), which was largely contributed to by Skelly. Being backed by L-TEC on the instrumentals this time around, the series still maintains its focus on the more raw & playful fundamentals of hip-hop, worrying less about gaudy facades, nitpicked engineering & the likes. Gutz's knack for stringing heartfelt ideals together with comical & lighthearted "euphemisms" with such steady delivery is definitely something to be cherished in this age of hip-hop & we're proud to make this our first official release here at PWC. You can stream & download In The Conundrum Vol. 2 for free by following the link below & then share it with a friend!

Real J. Wallace - Eons Above Tragic [Official Video]

San Diego native Real J. Wallace & his rapper cohort Bam Circa '86 (who together form the duo Brother Nature) have definitely been on their grind this summer. While Bam just dropped an emotionally stirring video for the single "Mist Of The Madness", Real J. keeps the ball rolling with some fresh & zen-like visuals for the single "Eons Above Tragic", produced by production duo Ill Rendition. Wallace &  Ill Rendition are currently working on a project to be titled Cali/Kali that us here at PWC cannot wait to hear in full. Even in the midst of finalizing his upcoming project, Wallace still found the between time to drop an impressive new single produced by Sound Providers' very own Profiile (linked below). With an album entirely produced by Blu under his belt already & a lot more dopeness to come, we know this man has got a bright future ahead of him. Enough from us though.. kick back & vibe on the fresh imagery of "Eons Above Tragic".

// & a quick shout out to his 8th&G fam who will be hosting a block party today in Downtown San Diego!

Wizards Only - Caricatures

Caricatures cover art

The Wizards Only crew is back at it with Caricatures, another vibrant & uniquely themed beat tape. This time around, they decided to tackle various samples from some of their favorite cartoons, spanning from the Powerpuff Girls to Pinky & the Brain. The wizards definitely don't hold back on this one, as you will notice as the various sounds blend into one head nodding, reminiscent symphony. Enough from me though, press play & vibe out. Bam Circa '86 - Mist Of The Madness

Bam Circa '86, of San Diego hip-hop duo Brother Nature, just dropped a video for the single "Mist Of The Madness". The heartfelt track & video seem to tell the a bit of a personal story about violence on the streets.  Laced with some killer organs, jazzy horns & equally laidback bassline, this track is sure to entice hip-hop heads near & far. Peep & enjoy!

Ricky Gutz - Sunny Side Down [leak]

If you've been following us here at PWC for the past couple months, then you already know a bit about our very own L-TEC & Ricky Gutz, as well as some of their work together. L-TEC (pictured above on the right) is an MC/producer in the SoCal hip-hop group Apex Realm & is currently producing an EP for the up & coming rhymesayer Ricky Gutz (pictured above on the left). They leaked the track "Love Affair" from their EP this Valentine's Day, opening it to free downloads for only a week before taking it down. Now they're back with "Sunny Side Down"another heartfelt track from the forthcoming EP. L-TEC's somber & jazzy production is filled with Gutz's deep & personal, yet rhythmically catchy lyricism, making it a love song that might have you finding yourself rapping along in hopes of overcoming your own intimate discrepancies. After leaking two love songs, it makes you wonder what else will be offered, eh? Well stay tuned for what change the full project (expected to drop at the end of the month) has in store, I have a feeling you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

AbJo - The AbJonian Suite

The AbJonian Suite cover art

If you follow the San Diego hip-hop culture at all, then AbJo should need no introduction. You can catch the Soulection / PIMB producer at a handful of SoCal's finest hip-hop shows wielding a laptop & fondling an MPD to perfection. His style can vary from jazzy to big beat to deep & brash electronic, but the best part about it is that it all has a completely original feel, making AbJo a favorite or ours here at PWC. He's quite consistent with his drops that you can stay up to date on via his Soundcloud. For those of you who are new to the sounds of AbJo, kickback & vibe the sounds of his December 2012 release The AbJonian Suite, which he claimed to be a purging of old beats & concepts in order to start the new year fresh. Enjoy!

Danny Da Beat'O - Chula Vista Bohemian RapCity [V/A Compilation]

Today we bring you Chula Vista producer Danny Da Beat'O, a friend of ours here at PWC. For those who are unaware, Chula Vista is one of the most southern cities in the San Diego metropolitan area (being only 7 miles from the Mexican border). It is home to a vast pool of different cultures & within those cultures lies a handful of talented artists of all sorts. It is home to the practically world renowned hardcore band Take Offense, who also happen to be close friends of the Apex Realm/PWC fam (also CV natives). The Chula Vista Bohemian RapCity tape is a compilation featuring a handful of both friends & up & coming emcees from the area, rapping over the often smooth & jazzy beats of Danny Da Beat'O. The most prominent of names featured would probably be Apex Realm's ever-blossoming emcees, but track for track, it definitely does not disappoint as you dive into fresh voices, rhythms & rhyme schemes. This is Da Beat'O's first full release & we expect what's next to come to only get better. Enjoy!

Real J. Wallace & Blu - RælBlz

If you've been following us here at PWC (or the SoCal hip-hop scene in general) then you are already well aware that Real J. Wallace (1/2 of 5&A Dime's Brother Nature) is no stranger to the mic. A little bit after dropping The Laundry Room, a mixtape recorded over LA hip-hop legend Blu's beats, he was granted the opportunity to show it to him in person & create a genuine bond. 2 years later they came out with the official release of their new project RaelBlz, completely produced by Blu under the alias Godlee Barnes. Ramel has since been working on a project entitled Cali, to be produced by production duo Ill Rendition, expected to drop June 19th. Check this link for an extensive interview with Real J. via Examiner.com & check out the link below to stream the RaelBlz tape. Infinity Dots [Skelly] - Fantasy Material

Our very own Skelly is back at it again, this time it's under the name Infinity Dots with an out-of-the-blue & off the wall experimental drop that we can't refute. I'm not exactly sure where to start when describing Fantasy Material. The 2-track teaser is a tad dancy, yet eerily dark, blending tastes of both classic rock & hardcore, while maintaining a deeply poetic & almost militant vibe. Although the influences clearly derive from a handful of different genres, I can't help but get a Rage Against The Machine type of feel from it. Check it out for yourselves!

Lethargik (L-TEC) - Lo-Fi Lovin' EP

PWC & Apex Realm's Lethargik the Earth Child (better known as L-TEC) was always on the lyrical side of things within his camp, but after picking up an SP-303 last summer & getting to know the mechanics behind it, he is said to have racked up an impressive amount of beats in a short amount of time. The Lo-Fi Lovin' EP is his first official beat tape & the name derives from the fact that he had no interface to get some of  his earliest work off of the 303, leading him to record the beats in a rather "lo-fi" fashion before moving on to the next. Nevertheless, the post-production work leaves the classic hip-hop vibes sounding "bump-worthy" & he still blends a handful of newer & more polished beats into the mix. Since dropping the EP, L-TEC has announced that he is producing an EP for fellow PWC camp-mate Ricky Gutz, who is featured on the last track of Lo-Fi Lovin'. Aside from that, he is also working on a full-length project entitled "One 4 All", flexing his lyrical skills with producer w!seguy behind the beats. They have since leaked the track "Loungin" from the upcoming release & plan to drop the full thing this summer. Stay tuned for what's next to come from the PWC camp & the artist informally known as Nappy DoLittle. Press play & enjoy!

Piff C. Herrera (PCH) - Tacoshophilosophy

Piff C. Herrera (aka PCH) is a personal favorite of ours here at PWC, with his labyrinth-like rhyme schemes going virtually unchallenged by most of today's emcees. The San Diego hip-hop veteran has a plethora of dope drops in his catalog, but today we're honing in on Tacoshophilosophy. The tape, produced by San Diego hip-hop veteran Mr. Brady, dropped around this time last year along with a video for the track "For The Yo's". It's truly a smooth ride through & through with Brady's classic productions being the palette for Herrera's mind to whimsically paint. Piff works with a plethora of SoCal powerhouses, ranging from his work with long-time running mate Makeshift under the crew name The Awful Great, as well as the supergroup "The Weekenders", consisting of the two of them along with 5&A Dime's Brother Nature & Sacramento's Chuuwee. PCH is most definitely a bad man & we mean that in the best way possible. Press play & enjoy!

Ricky Gutz - In The Conundrum [Mixtape]

Around this time last year, our boy Ricky Gutz "unofficially" broke onto the scene with the drop of his first mixtape, In The Conundrum. Only rapping for a short amount of time at this point, Gutz had already shown much character & vision in his delivery & In The Conundrum was a quick & fun DIY way of sharpening his sword while portraying his sharply carefree & witty lyricism. Best put by a quote from his own page; "In The Conundrum MIXTAPE is the bastard child of the long-standing and spiteful relationship between rapper Ricky Gutz and Hip Hop." Nevertheless, we assure you that the obscurely "mixed-tape" gives you a fair share of head-nodders, while still leaving you to crave for more.. & where is "more" you may ask? Well since the project had it's fair share of contribution from Apex Realm's Skelly, with him being featured on several of the tracks as well as producing a few of them, Gutz's next step has been to put out his first solid EP to be produced entirely by Apex's Lethargik. The two have since leaked the track "Love Affair" from the EP for Valentine's Day only (how appropriate). Stay tuned for what's in store from Gutz & the rest of us here at the PWC camp. Enjoy!

Lethargik - Loungin' [leak]

PWC & Apex Realm's Lethargik (aka L-TEC) has released a leak, fittingly entitled "Loungin", after recently announcing that he has a full-length project underway to be completely produced by SoCal native w!seguy. The laid-back track also features verses from both fellow Apex member Skelly & their right hand man Ricky Gutz. L-TEC has also recently announced that he will be producing an EP for Gutz, projected to be released later this year. We advise that y'all don't sleep on the PWC camp! nor this upcoming album, set to drop this summer. Enjoy!

gaboYama - Select Screens

After a bit of a hiatus, we're back & next up is a dope collaborative project between So Cal producers Gabonano & Go Yama. Together they go by gaboYama & I probably wouldn't be the first to say that these two really have something going here with their first project! In Select Screens, they seamlessly fused their electronic/synthy/trip-hop styles to formulate this spacey, smooth & hard-hitting vibe, all based on Nintendo's Zelda video game. Needless to say, they came correct.. but don't take our word for it, check it out for yourselves & enjoy!

Makeshift - No Doze Vol. 1 [[Throwback Thursday]]

In this instilled installment of Throwback Thursdays, we bring you an up and coming hometown hero of sorts. Makeshift has been putting in work from his native land of San Diego for years & is not a fellow to take lightly by any means. The MC/producer has a healthy catalog of solo projects, spanning back as far as 2008, starting with his Hella Heavy EP that seems almost impossible to find now (glad to say that I still have a digital copy). Everything the man puts out is fresh & timeless, hip-hop in it's purest form if I must say. I would have loved to post the Hella Heavy EP for you all, but seeing as how I couldn't find any direct links towards it, take a slightly more recent blast from the past & check out his 2009 mixtape, No Doze Vol. 1, we guarantee you won't be disappointed.

We're definitely curious as to what The Prelude is leading up to. Take a listen below & enjoy!

Last November, Real J. released the Coretta Scott EP, which is a continuation of his "Jahfather of Soul" releases. The Coretta Scott EP was made to play through the time it takes to drive across   San Diego's Interstate 94 (aka the MLK Freeway) & is inspired by Coretta Scott King, who is Wallace's idea of a perfect woman. THROWBACK THURSDAY #1: Each thursday we will be blogging previously un-posted albums which may not be considered to be "fresh off the press", but are still worth adding to your musical archives. Today we bring you Fluxcity. Before teaming up with the Apex Realm crew in early 2011, Okie Dokes already had his foot in hip-hop's door, dropping various projects as the emcee in San Diego native group Flux Co., as well as his own solo endeavors under the alias Flow DiMaggio. During this time, he gained a good deal of local recognition & even performed with the likes of Wu-Tang's Ghostface Killah. w!seguy - Magnum Opus

w!seguy dropped a "holy grail' of a beat tape at the end of last year that's nothing short of jazzy, soulful, hard-hitting & seamlessly smooth, proving he is definitely not a producer to be taken lightly. The Southern California native's skills are highly underrated, but we're pretty sure that won't be the case for long. This 28-track manifesto is what we believe to be his first full project & it has the ability to keep any real hip-hop advocate's head nodding & hyped to hear what lies in this guy's future. He has recently announced that he will be producing a solo project for Apex Realm's Lethargik that should be dropping later this year. We've also heard talk of him already planning his second instrumental album, so strap in your seat belts & neck braces, press the play button, enjoy the ride & lookout for what's next to come! Skelly - Weird Existence [Mixtape]

Apex Realm's Skelly just dropped a 4/20 mixtape entitled "Weird Existence" & let me tell you firsthand that he (as well as this mixtape) is nothing to sleep on. He starts the tape off strong, exemplifying his witty & non-stop cadence, combined with a smooth & laidback delivery over some mellow yet hard-hitting instrumentals. He then laces in a more glitchy/lo-fi selection of beats, all the while, lyrically handling in such a manner that I feel it's safe to deem him true poet. True to the title, some of the sounds chosen for the tape lie on a more abstract plain, but definitely not without their artistic merit. It features both a verse & an instrumental from his fellow crewmate Lethargik (L-TEC), not to mention additional features from the likes of Wizards Only's Gabonano & on-point lyricists like the Bay Area's Ahmal D & San Diego native Ricky Gutz. All in all, this is one for the iTunes library. Thumbs up from me!
